Gallery Artists Douling Huang
Duoling Huang was born in Guangzhou in 1950 and spent her childhood in Beijing. It was a very hard time for her family when the Cultural Revolution swept China. Her father, a Senior Architect in China, was persecuted; the Red Guards invaded her home and ransacked anything of value. Huang left home to stay with her sister who was attending an art college in Beijing. At age 16, Huang was inspired by her peers - the students at the college - to use art as an outlet for the anguish of the times. One star student in particular influenced her the most - Zhaozhi Xiong, her future husband. Unfortunately in 1968, the government sent Huang to a remote farm village in Inner Mongolia, where she worked as a laborer for five arduous years. Huang recalled the farewell day in Beijing Railroad station: “I have never forgotten the moment when the train started to move, the cry bursted from the crowd, both on the train and the platform. My schoolmates struggled to stretch their heads out from the train windows, hoping to see their parents for the last time. I sat in my seat quietly and realized that life would never be the same, and I had to stand on my own feet.” Facing an uncertain future, she turned to art. After workdays in the field, Huang painted under the dim oil light in her clay hut. She drew sheep, cows, farmers, the sky and wild flowers. Her farmer friends liked to be her models. To Huang, art was her soul asylum. “None of us could see any future. We were told that we should stay there for the rest of our life. Our hearts filled with anxiety and confusion, but I didn’t lose hope. I always found happiness and inner equilibrium from painting.” Duoling Huang doesn’t put much attention to the context and reason of her works. She is simply an artist and works with intuition. “What attracted me was the beauty of the cultures. I was always excited when I saw things from different traditions. There must be a reason that they could make it all the way here through erosion from nature and time. Painting is like eating, I taste every layer of sandwich and enjoy the flavor comes from the combination.” Duoling Huang is living and working in Las Vegas with her husband George Zhaozhi Xiong.  Birthplace: Guangzhou City, China Education: 1976 Tianjin Fine Art College, Tianjin, China Selected Exhibitions 2010 Divine Inspiration, Chrysalis Gallery, South Hampton, NY Art Hamptons, McGinnis Gallery, NY Looking East, Tao Water Art Gallery, Provincetown, MA 2009 Infinite Instances, ArcheTime, New York Spledent Representations, Chrysalis Gallery, South Hampton, NY Spirit of the Sea, Tao Water Art Gallery, Provincetown, MA 2008 Seated Lotus, Cheryl McGinnis Gallery, New York Recent Works, Tao Water Art Gallery, Provincetown, MA 2007 Black+White, Grey Matter, Cheryl McGinnis Gallery, New York Confluence of Culture, Walter Wickiser Gallery, New York Interior Structure, Gallery on High, Columbus, OH Furniture in Colors, Tao Water Art gallery, Provincetown, MA Inspired Exploration, Chrysalis Gallery, South Hampton 2006 Recent Paintings, Tao Walter Art Gallery, West Barnstable, MA Windows by the Sea, Chrysalis Gallery, South Hampton, NY 2005 East Meets West, Tao Water Art Gallery, West Barnstable, MA Inspiration of the Nature, Chrysalis gallery, South Hampton, NY 2004 Recent Paintings, Tao Water Art Gallery, West Barnstable, MA Color of the Spring, Goodman Gallery, Old Lyme, CT Two person Show, Chrysalis Gallery, South Hampton, NY 2003 Recent paintings, Tao Water Art gallery, West Barnstable, MA Creative Splendor, Chrysalis gallery, South Hampton, NY
